I can't stop painting. And, I need to. I have two beautiful, ladies from blogland who are waiting for dolls that must get done. Alyson and Becky, if you're reading this, I'm almost there! : ) But, I have been thinking, A LOT, about painting in a much freer style. I know it's hard to tell but I tend to be so meticulous that a simple painting can take me forever...if a line is out of place...the colors aren't exactly right.....you know.
I have always loved the impressionists....how can twenty different colors make up one face?!
But I never really paint this way.
Why?
The honest answer....fear.
So, Friday night, I threw caution to the wind! That's right. Tossed it right out the window! I mixed crazy colors and just painted what I felt. Without really feeling where it was going or worrying about a perfect outcome.
And, I'm sooooo pleased! So, all this to say....maybe it is good to move out of our comfort zone every once in a while. : )
Have a wonderful Sunday...we're off to take tball pictures!

She's gorgeous, Julie. I love all the colors of her face. She's very contemplative here. Great job!!! :) Theresa
ReplyDeleteOh Julie, do I ever know what you are talking about!
ReplyDeleteThis morning I saw a program on PBS www.createtv.org David Dunlop was showing how to paint in Vincent Van Gogh style and next time he will show Monet in Monet's actual garden! The show will be on again today at 3:30 P.M. Pacific time. I watch in on channel 112 Comcast.
here is a link but I don't know if it works

I agree!! How will you know, if you don't try it--I wish I could listen to myself!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful painting. Love the colors in this one. Happy Sunday ~ Jill

I love it! It is so different, but still so you. I know exactly what you mean. I keep wanting to try knew things too. I think it is normal to want to keep growing as an artist.
ReplyDeleteJennifer

ReplyDeleteshe's gorgeous! and i go through the same thing- when i have things i need to get done, my heart gets stuck somewhere else!
ReplyDeleteOOH! Just beautiful and it's so neat to hear you speak of just throwing out those old fears..I wanted to say that your work is just so beautiful to me..it really is. I love how Ruby's Nest turned out! It's fantastic! And your Frida is so beautiful too..those faces can melt anyone's heart. Keep up the wonderful work!
ReplyDeleteI love it! It is different, but still distinctively your style! I know what you mean about trying to make things perfect, when I paint I often remind myself--it's FOLK ART--it isn't suppose to be perfect! That is the charm of it. It looks like you have paper on this one. I have been trying experiment with painting over paper a little bit. I love your work--my beautiful Rosemary doll I won on your blog makes me smile every day!
ReplyDeleteOh keep painting, your work is just soooooo beautiful.
ReplyDeleteJulie, she really is gorgeous. Sometimes we HAVE to throw all caution to the wind and just JUMP! :) She's lovely!
ReplyDeleteAnd it's lovely!
ReplyDeleteImpressionism is one of my favorites :)
She came out just beautiful! I needed to hear this, because I can get wrapped up so easily with insecurity and wanting my paintings to be "perfect." Keep going with your instincts, the results are wonderful! ~Lauren
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!! I am learning to do the same thing. You need to join our art thing every Thursday! This is perfect!!
ReplyDeleteShe is absolutely lovely! Love it! And take as long as you need on my doll. It's all good! :)
ReplyDeleteShe is so lovely...she has a peaceful, contemplative air about her. It's good to stretch out creatively and test out new things.
ReplyDeleteAnd soon it will be spring: new growth and beauty...it's the perfect time to do this. :)
